South of the Grand Hotel in Point Clear where Scenic 98 turns eastward, County Road 1 runs southward along Mobile Bay to the entrance to Weeks Bay. There are homes and many undeveloped lots along this stretch of scenic byway offering the best the area has to offer, with stunning sunsets, white sand beaches and plenty of towering pine trees and moss-covered live oaks. Considered part of the Fairhope city limits, the area is a water-lovers dream with waterfront lots and homes, many with private piers, boardwalks and boat houses.
  • Every October, our town is painted in hues of pink in support of breast cancer awareness. In downtown Fairhope the streets are lined with big pink bows on street poles and merchants doors. Flags with the breast cancer pink ribbon adorn the light poles and at the pier our fountain flows with pink water. My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer, several of my friends as well and I have personally taken care of oncology patients in the past. It makes my heart happy to see Fairhope continuing to support such an important cause and one that is very near and dear to my heart!

One of my favorite places to grab a quick lunch is at Panini Petes at the French Quarter in downtown Fairhope. My favorite Panini is the fresh mozzarella and tomato on focaccia with fries. Of course there are other delicious items on the menu but I always resort back to the mozzarella and tomato Panini. I enjoy sitting outside in the courtyard under the umbrella. It makes me feel like I'm on vacation.

Have you ever tried beignets? If not, they are a must at Panini Petes! They are served hot with plenty of white powered sugar and slices of lemons. In my opinion they are a step up from donuts! I enjoy eating them anytime of the day!
  • With one of the lowest tuitions in the state of Alabama, Faulkner State Community College is a great place to obtain a college education. The main campus is located in Bay Minette, and additional campuses are located in Fairhope, and at the beach of Gulf Shores! Who wouldn't want to study down at the beach?

Faulkner offers a variety of degrees with Nursing being one of their most popular. If you are planning to move here and need an affordable school check out the link below!
  • The Fairhope Yacht Club is a family friendly private club located on the eastern shore of Mobile Bay in Fairhope, AL. Lots of my clients ask me about the Fairhope Single Tax. Simply put, when someone purchases a building on land owned by the Fairhope Single Tax Corporation, they acquire ownership of the building and other improvements, and only a 99 year lease on the land.

Fairhope, Alabama, is a single tax colony based on the single tax theories of economist Henry George, from his book Progress and Poverty, published in 1879. One of the wonderful benefits of the Fairhope Single Tax are the beautiful parks throughout the city.

The sign near Fairhope's Municipal Pier, Rose Garden and Fountain, reads, "These Bayfront Parklands were given to the people of Fairhope by the Fairhope Single Tax Corporation to be held forever in trust for every Fairhopian."

Eleven parks were donated to the City by the Single Tax Corporation. It also helped fund the new library. Follow the link for more information.

If you have a few extra minutes traveling the Scenic Hwy 98 between Fairhope and Daphne, just a few hundred yards to the east of the highway sits the Historic Montrose Post Office. This tiny building still lists the postmasters that served from 1890 to 1913. A historic marker explains the history of the building and the beauty of the area and its towering live oak trees make it worthy of a stop.

I recently found a new love: sailing! Before moving to the coast of Alabama, I knew that sailing was to be high on my list of "must do". If you've never experienced this peaceful yet exhilarating experience, put sailing on your list, too! I grew up on ski boats, john boats, kayaks, pontoons and the like. I have traveled on cruise ships, large and small. I've gone deep sea fishing on commercial fishing boats. I've even toured the USS Alabama and the USS Intrepid, but, I had never been on a sail boat!

The Fairhope Yacht Club is a beautiful building overlooking the bay at the end of Volanta St., which also boasts great homes within walking distance. Fly Creek is on the northern side of the Yacht Club with multiple boat slips as well. The club is upscale, yet surprisingly affordable and dinner there is always wonderful. Check out the Fairhope Yacht Club for adult and junior sailing classes! If you too have waited a life time to sail...don't wait any longer. Go sailing!

  • Can't wait for the Annual 4th of July fireworks display. Once again the City of Fairhope is planning a great fireworks display at the City Pier at dusk. The only way to celebrate!
  • The Highway 181 Flea Market has loads of merchandise, from baby stuff to antiques. One booth has great cypress furniture, perfect for the back yard! Located less than 20 minutes from Spanish Fort on Highway 181.
