Hungry for a great burger? Butch Cassidy's is the place to find it. The "soon to be famous" Butch Burger has graduated to be the "now famous" Butch Burger. Stop by on an evening when you are not in a rush, it is clearly stated on their menu that each burger is made to order. Who would want it any other way? Just sit back and enjoy the pub-like atmosphere or, if you're lucky and came on the right night, the live music. If you are a fried dill pickle fan, in my opinion these are the best. We love the atmosphere and the food is always a win!!

Who doesn't love shopping at Publix?! As a midtown resident, I am super excited about the new Midtown Publix. No need to battle heavy traffic because it is conveniently located at the intersection of Florida St. and Old Shell Rd. It is a great addition to the neighborhood!

Last night Old Dauphin Way Association had their monthly meeting. Dr. Frances Mujica, assistant professor of geography at the University of South Alabama discussed urban geography. This turned into a lively discussion about what our historic areas need and the challenges they face. These meetings are monthly on the 2nd Thursday, usually at St. Mary's on Old Shell Rd. In April we will not have a meeting because of the plant swap and the Annual picnic on April 17th at Little Sisters of the Poor beginning at 1:00.

I just ran a comparison of houses sold in mid-town (I-65 East to Broad St) and in 2015 there was a 27% increase in closed properties from 2014. As I predicted there are a lot more people out there buying houses. We had to get the first time buyers to move out of their parents houses and buy their own. They start the wheel turning, then the second time buyer can move up, then the third, etc.
My prediction for 2016 is that the increase will continue. Buyers are afraid the interest rates will continue to rise and should start jumping on the band wagon. I have seen this happen time and time again. Keep in mind this is a prediction based on a catastrophe free year.

My favorite wine bar in Mobile is Red or White on Dauphin and Hallett Streets. You can buy a bottle of wine in the wine shop, take it to the bar area, chill it if needed, and order food and enjoy it at your table. If (and I say if lightly) you don't finish the bottle the staff will cork it and you can take it home. Their food is limited but delicious and if you are a spend thrift like me they have a great selection of $10 bottles of wines.
