Recently, on a Friday night some of our best friends invited us to spend some time with them in Paint Rock Valley. They have a few acres up in "The Valley" as locals say. We had a ball riding four wheelers and enjoying nature. Late in the evening, we loaded up in their SUV and headed to nearby Skyline for supper. Skyline is located on Highway 79 on a mountain. We pulled into a gravel parking lot to a not so fancy place. The sign on the building read "Cafe." I later learned that the proper name is Mason's Cafe. Walking in the door of Mason's Cafe, we saw almost a house full of folksy folks, smiling and speaking. I love Southern hospitality. There were red/whited checkered vinyl table clothes. Fancy was unheard of. Some of the patrons had sauce on their faces from eating the ribs. We placed our sweet tea orders and headed for the buffet. Ribs and pork chops by the galore were cooked in about every way imaginable. There were "fixins"' galore, too. I do believe that Mason's Cafe has the best ribs that I have ever eaten. They were so tender that the meat fell off the bone. If you find yourself around the Scottsboro area on a Friday night around 7:30, you owe it to yourself to scoot up the mountain to Skyline and dig into those ribs.
