The Underwood-Petersville area is situated just north of Florence city limits on Hwy 157. Easy access to Cox Creek makes the mall only 10-15 minutes away. The community includes an elementary school, grades K-6, a volunteer fire department and a volunteer sponsored community center. There are many small businesses including family owned restaurants, convenience stores, tire stores, mechanic shops, auto parts, landscaping, auto sales, dollar store, banks, churches and much more. The area is growing in leaps and bounds and new homes are popular here, too. There are some developments that have been incorporated into the city limits of Florence while others remain in Lauderdale County district. For this reason, school district varies. Many attend Underwood through elementary and then move on to Central or Wilson High Schools or Florence City Schools. The local community center hosts an all-u-can-eat breakfast the first Saturday of every month from 6 a.m.-9 a.m. and the fire department has a great fish fry the third Saturday of the month from 2-7 p.m., so there is always plenty of good food available.
