Just a 35 minutes drive from Birmingham is The Village at Blount Springs. A gated community in a beautiful setting with a lake, trails, swim club, club house, just to name some of the amenities they offer. The buildings and homes all feature the Southern Living architecture and include a Post Office and Chapel. History says the original Blount Springs offered healing waters in its mineral springs and was a favorite getaway for people from all over. I remember as a child when my parents and their friends would load all the kids in the car and take a long drive from my hometown to get BBQ. All I knew was it served BBQ, catfish and fried pies and it was called Top Hat. Top Hat has been serving up some of Alabama's best BBQ since 1967. Even today my husband and I take a trip up I65 to the Blount Springs exit to satisfy our craving for BBQ, fries (with extra sauce for dipping the fries) and fried pecan pies. Comfort food is what I call it and the memories of learning what good food and friends are like from my parents. The drive up from Birmingham is really pretty this time of year, too!
