Homewood Area Insight

  • Homewood, AL
One of my favorite things about Homewood is our high school band! It typically has as many, if not more, members than the University of Alabama's Million Dollar Band! Seeing them preform is a highlight of many of Homewood's annual events. Homecoming Parade, Christmas Parade, Christmas Concert, and numerous football games, We Love Homewood Day (yes, we dedicate a whole day each summer for this), Back to School Bash and pep rallies. The band as marched in the 2018 Macy's Parade on Thanksgiving Day in New York City! By the way, it takes five charter buses for the band to travel. The students and directors spend hours practicing for these events and they never disappoint! If you haven't had an opportunity to see them, you should. They're really fantastic!

  • Located in the heart of Homewood, Dave's Pizza is a favorite gathering spot known for its open-air dining and live music. It's a great place to grab a quick lunch or dinner, but they also do an excellent job serving large groups. If you're looking for a place to host a special event or need catering they can do that too. Great menu! Lots of pizza choices as well as salads, appetizers, sandwiches and desserts - they also have an extensive beer and wine list.

So what is your favorite thing to order at Dave's? Mine isn't even pizza - I love the Mediterranean BLT! I'm not sure how I discovered it, but it is so good and stuffed with feta cheese, pesto and plenty of bacon. I love their pizza too, but I usually order my sandwich and sneak slices from my friends' pizzas so I can enjoy it all.

Dave's website is listed below and has everything you need to know about planning events, catering, entertainment, as well as their menu.
  • Something new is coming to the Homewood dining scene! Holler & Dash will be what's been described as a fast-casual biscuit restaurant (along the lines of Cracker Barrel, only faster) that plans to open this spring in the Soho district of Homewood. I haven't been able to get my hands on the menu yet, but I understand it was developed by Chef Jason McConnell so it's got to be delicious (Cork and Cow Restaurant, 55 South, Sol Restaurant, Red Pony Restaurant)! It's sure to be a great addition to the area and will add even more variety to the dining options in Homewood. They are currently filling positions so if you or anyone you know is interested in a job at this new restaurant, click on the link below.

Saws BBQ has been regarded as the best barbecue in America by Paula Deen. The owner, Mike Wilson, says the focus of Saw's is simple - "Good ole southern soul food." Saw's hole-in-the-wall, old fashion look makes it that much better. From when you walk in and the aroma of delicious barbecue hits your face to the old school signs on the wall, the atmosphere is just part of what makes Saw's so amazing. It is located at 1008 Oxmoor Rd., Homewood, AL. If you are craving BBQ, Saw's in Homewood or one of its other two locations (Saw's Soul Kitchen and Saw's Juke Joint) are the only choices to truly get the best BBQ in the state.
