Mortimer Jordan High School opened its doors in 1920. The first graduating class consisted of two young ladies. Since that time, almost 10,000 students have been graduated. The school was named for Captain Mortimer Harvie Jordan, a World War I hero who was killed in battle in 1918. He was a physician as well as a soldier and officer. He is buried at Arlington National Cemetery.

The original school was located in Morris, Alabama. The humble structure consisted of only five rooms. In 2011, the school was relocated to a massive state-of-the-art facility some four miles away in Kimberly. Centennial celebration festivities are planned throughout the year.

The "it can wait" pledge also reminds students that it's smart not to text someone if you know the other person is driving as well. Good advice for all drivers!
