  • Looking for something educational and fun to do with your kids' group this summer? Schedule a fire station tour! Mountain Brook provides station tours which are 30 minutes to 1 hour long and determined by age appropriateness. The tours are held mornings from 8:00 - 10:30 a.m., Monday-Thursday and 1:00 - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Call Jennifer Price at (205) 802-3838 to schedule a tour. You'll need to provide the following information: contact person, best phone number, group involved, number of children/adults in the group, and ages of children in the group. In addition to parties not being allowed, party gifts, food, drink, and decorations are not allowed either. However, guests will receive treats including helmets, stickers, and coloring books. Photos can be taken in front of a firefighter's mural. This is an educational and fun way for children to learn about the important job that firefighters have in keeping our community safe!

To say that Mountain Brook is upscale is an understatement. It is one of the most affluent cities in Alabama if not America! The way of life is definitely Southern and genteel. Gorgeous tree-lined neighborhoods boast what many would consider mansions. In 1929, area businessman Robert Jemison, Jr. developed the area along Red Mountain and Shades Mountain. There are three distinct "villages" comprising Mountain Brook: English Village, Mountain Brook Village and Crestline Village. Over twenty thousand people call Mountain Brook home.

Whole Foods Market is opening a second Birmingham area location in the winter of 2016. The new store will be located at the corner of Highway 150 and Highway 31 in Hoover with a proposed Grand Opening of December 2016. The first store is located at 3100 Cahaba Village Plaza in Mountain Brook and has a large selection of organic and natural products.

They say "never go grocery shopping when you're hungry". Problem solved: the Prepared Foods departments include a deli, pizza joint, sushi or seafood bar, salad bar, sandwich bar, hot bar, olive bar, and wine bar. Eat something healthy, delicious, and "made from scratch" before you get your shopping done. The pizza is delicious!

    Whole Foods Market's hours are from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday - Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday.
  • Recently Business Insider examined 2,754 municipalities across the country to determine the top 50 suburbs and Mountain Brook, Alabama was ranked second! To qualify, the area had to be within 25 miles of the nearest metro area and have a population of 5,000 and 100,000. The rankings factored in median household income, average commuting times, public school ratings, poverty and crime rates and housing affordability. The community has residential areas designed by Warren Manning, the landscape planner behind New York City's Central Park, its own school system, a median household income of $131,281 and five distinct shopping villages. The only other Alabama community to make this list was a Birmingham suburb as well, Vestavia Hills!
  • Who doesn't love spring? The fresh green foliage and colorful trees and flowers are such a delight to the senses and I love to dig in the dirt! So I am always excited when the Birmingham Botanical Gardens has that annual Spring Plant Sale! This year the sale will be at Brookwood Village, beginning Friday April 10 and concluding Sunday the 12th. There will be more than 100,000 plants! Heaven for gardeners! Click on the link below for hours of the sale and more details.
  • For as long I as can remember, Smith's Variety has been in the same location in the Mountain Brook Shopping Center in Mountain Brook Village. As a child it was my favorite store and it has only gotten bigger and better over the years. Although the old shopping center is being torn down (the new Lane Parke Development is well underway), Smith's Variety will stay in the community, moving just minutes away to Crestline Village, tentatively scheduled for January 2016.
  • As a child growing up in Mountain Brook, I was always fascinated by the wooden waterwheel on the 1926 Mill House on Shades Creek on Mountain Brook Parkway! I didn't know the history, which at that time was not so many years in the past. A replica built on the very foundations of an earlier grist mill, the Old Mill House first served as a tea room and was built by the Jemison Companies to promote the newly developed suburb of Mountain Brook. It even had hitching posts for horses! Surrounded by the grand old homes that were part of the original development of this lovely suburb south of Downtown Birmingham, the 1920's charm remains and yet is only minutes away from what many of us believe is the best dining, shopping and amenities around.
