I passed by the USS Alabama late yesterday, an impressive sight at dusk. It made me remember being a young school kid and donating money to bring it home. The park has grown quite a bit since then. It's one of Alabama's most popular attractions and it's in our backyard!

Recent changes in the Spanish Fort fire department's rating could spell savings on your homeowners' insurance. In early February, Spanish Fort Fire Rescue announced that its rating had improved to a Class 3 ISO Rating and suggested that homeowners contact their insurance companies to make sure they realized the savings. One Spanish Fort resident reported a savings of $315 a year due to the new rating.
After contacting several insurance agents, I found that:
-- Some agents were already aware of the change; others, not. So you will want to make sure your insurance carrier is aware of it.
-- One agent said there would be no change since any rating below a 4 enjoyed the best rates.
-- Glen Gorowsky, an independent agent, said the rating applies to a 5-mile radius around the fire department.
-- And finally, a rep for the insurer of my personal home says I should save some money, but the change won't go through until my late spring renewal date. I won't know how much I may save until then.
